SUDBURY – For the first time in its 24 year history, the United Way / Centraide Sudbury &/et district has received a corporate gift from a locally owned and operated company in the sum of ten-thousand dollars. Cast Resource Equipment Limited has made the ten-thousand dollar donation to the United Way/Centraide, but what makes this gift so special is this is the largest corporate gift this United Way has received by a locally owned and operated company. Mike Castron, President of the Sudbury Area Mining Supply & Services Association (SAMSSA) for the past three years, and representative of Cast Resources Equipment Limited states “the community has been good to us, and it is a privilege for us to give back this way.” Dick Destefano, the volunteer with the United Way Campaign Cabinet responsible for Mining Supply and Service Companies in the City said he is extremely pleased with the first major donation from a SAMSSA member and especially from the President of SAMSSA. By giving to the United Way/ Centraide Sudbury &/et district, Cast Resource Equipment Limited is helping ensure vital human/social services programs in our community will continue to provide quality service to our friends, family members and neighbours in their time of need. “We are thrilled with this donation, as this is the first time we have received a ten-thousand dollar gift from a local company. While every donation made to the United Way is important and appreciated, this gift helps us in our quest of the towards 2 million dollar goal” states United Way Executive Director Glenn Thibeault. There are many ways to give to the United Way/Centraide Sudbury &/et district. Many companies provide employees with an opportunity to give through payroll deductions; some like Cast Resources provide corporate gifts, while others combine both corporate gifts and employee giving. 2006 United Way Campaign Chair Mark Cutifani states "In strong economic times like these, we owe it to ourselves and our community to remember and support those who need the United Way/Centraide the most. I thank Mike Castron and his team at Cast Resource Equipment Limited for this generous donation and urge the people of Greater Sudbury to get involved in this year's United Way / Centraide fundraising campaign." This year’s campaign goal is towards two-million. Last year, the local United Way raised just over 1.5 million dollars. That money went towards funding 49 human/social service based programs in Greater Sudbury and area. The campaign runs throughout the fall with its touchdown planned for mid to late December.
