The support started with a $10,000 donation from CAST Resource Equipment Limited, the largest corporate donation from a locally owned company in the agency’s history. Mike Castron, Past President of the Sudbury Area Mining Supply & Services Association (SAMSSA) for the past three years, and representative of Cast Resources Equipment Limited states “the community has been good to us, and it is a privilege for us to give back this way.”

But the sector’s support has taken all forms. Battlefield the CAT Rental Store, a wholly owned subsidiary of Toromont, has supported the campaign by providing over $5000 worth of equipment for various campaign events including the Campaign Kick off in September, as well as running a very effective workplace campaign. Tom DiFrancesco, Regional Manager of Battlefield says they are proud to help and “This is a great way to ‘build a better community’ for us all”. Toromont itself is proud to announce that they have achieved 100% participation in United Way campaigns nationally.

The new SAMSSA President and General Manager of Carriere Industrial Supply Limited, Jean-Marc Valade, with the full support of General Sales Manager Mark Andrews and the Carriere family, has also initiated a new workplace campaign and corporate match at their company. “Our sector is doing very well and this is a great time and a great way to share our good fortune” he explains. “The mining supply sector expects to be ‘stronger for longer’ and when we each give a little it goes a long way. The company has chosen to become partners with our employees in this endeavour and we will match their contributions dollar for dollar”.
