Normet Corporation of Finland has developed a completely new underground management and transportation vehicle. The Normet RBO is a pioneering vehicle designed explicitly for underground use, built with know-how accumulated during over 40 years of underground mobile equipment production. The product will be distributed in Canada by Cast Resource Equipment Limited out Sudbury, Ontario.
"Until now, personnel have been transported in mines and tunnels with vehicles not designed for underground use, such as cars and tractors," said Cast Resources' Technical Sales manager Mike Castron. "We believe that mining and tunnelling companies who purchase the RBO will now have a vehicle that will last in the most extreme underground conditions."

Extreme conditions call for a robust and safe construction plus an efficient and powerful engine. The Normet RBO features an electronically controlled 95 kW engine from Caterpillar or Deutz. The RBO cabin is FOPS and ROPS approved.
Ease of use and safety often in narrow and steep tunnels are achieved with an electronically controlled automatic hydrostatic transmission, hydrostatic, Orbitrol-type power steering (right or left hand side), two circuit oil immersed multidisc service brakes and failsafe type parking/emergency brake. With heavy-duty materials, robust construction and precise manufacturing, the operating time of the Normet RBO is maximized and the need for maintenance pared down. The lifetime of the Normet RBO is longer when compared with modified and tuned vehicles that are originally designed for other uses.
One example of the underground-special design is the suspension (parabolic leaf springs and hydraulic shock absorbers) Sound insulation, fresh air blower with filtering, interior lightning, cabin heating, air conditioning, laminated safety windscreen, halogen headlights - designed for underground use to the last detail. The Normet RBO cabin has room for 5 persons. Open cargo bed with 1 tonne carrying capacity (Euro-pallet) makes it easy to transport even large and heavy cargo. The cargo bed can also be equipped with a crane. Cast Resource Equipment Limted is a major supplier of mobile underground equipment.
